CREATIVITY'S TERRIBLE TIMING
Creativity Is... is a short motion piece about the less glamorous side of creativity- those hours spent staring at a screen, trying to get things moving, while the idea you’re waiting for has apparently decided today is not a good time.
The film follows a character trying, unsuccessfully, to come up with an idea for a project before the deadline hits.
Rather than treating creative block as something dramatic or tragic, I chose to approach the frustration with a lighter, more humorous tone.
The result is a visual interpretation of a feeling I know a little too well as a designer: creative ideas aren’t something you can force into existence. Sometimes you just have to stay open and let them come when they come- even if their timing causes a little panic.

FROM REFERENCES TO STORYBOARDING
I focused my references on simple, graphic 2D characters, which helped keep the visual language clean and put more attention on movement rather than texture or detail. After studying the recurring shapes and proportions, I created a character loosely based on myself- which felt appropriate for a film about creativity from my own point of view.
The storyboard was mainly used to define the key poses and structure of the film. I already knew I wanted the piece to build toward a humorous payoff, while the animatic helped me figure out the timing and pacing needed to make that final moment land.
